Corned Beef & Bacon Cheese Fries Recipe

Hey everyone! I made one of my favorite dishes today for mother & thought I would share the recipe with you. You can do different variations of it but today since I was limited on ingredients I only used the ingredients pictured above plus onions and dashinomoto (fish flakes).

Step 1: Peel potatoes. Make sure to take out all of the eyes.
I used two potatoes since I am cooking for two.

Step 2:  Chop the potatoes however you like, I did them french fry style. I cut them in half them sliced them the long way.

Step 3: Chop up onions into small squares.

Step 4: Slice bacon into small strips. I only used three half slices which is about one full slice & a half.

Step 5: Since I cooked for two I used half a can of corned beef. I would say about a quarter of a can a person.

Step 6: I was in a hurry so I used two different pans at the same time. If you have more time then you can do one at a time. It'll probably save you trouble & you will have better results since you can won't risk over cooking anything. Anyway I put some oil on one pan for the fries. On one I fried just potatoes for a while. Then added onions. Fry everything on LOW because if you have too much heat it will burn before everything is properly cooked. This goes for both pans.
In another pan fry bacon first. The bacon will produce enough oil that you won't need to put your own oil. Then add the corned beef.

Step 7: Combine everything into one pan. Then in whatever order add shoyu (soy sauce) about one and a half swirls and about a little less then a quarter of a pack of dashinomoto is to my liking but you should just swig little by little & taste as you go to get the right amount for you. If you add too much of either, the ingredient will over power the taste & only taste like dashi or shoyu. Be careful!

Step 8: Make sure it's all mixed up then add a small handful of four cheese mexican. Mix some more then you are done! There's tons of flavor already but if you are feeling like a bit of extra would do then try some sour cream like I did or even ranch dressing.

NOTE: This is an extremely high calorie food so if you are dieting this is definitely the wrong food to be making. Your hips might be begging for a run on the treadmill afterwards. It's a guilty pleasure comfort food that I like to indulge in once in a while. But hey YOLO so let's enjoy life sometimes :-P Hope you like it!

OKUMA BEACH FEST 2013

This past weekend I went to Okuma Beach Fest 2013. Okuma Festival is a music festival up in the country side of Okinawa. There were a few artists I enjoyed seeing like Okinawa's D-51 & Hawaii's Konishiki. Mostly I was there for the camping & drinking with my good friends. It was nice to get together by the campfire & get silly. My friend Heather & I went up Thursday night to have some girl time. We got drunk in the cabin playing UNO & went for a midnight swim in the cold ocean water! The next day we did some paddle boarding, which was harder then I thought it would be! Def ate it a bunch of times. We floated so far from shore that we ended up getting rescued by a really nice jetski dude. My first jetski ride ever! All in all a good weekend! Can't wait to go back to Okuma in a few weeks when my girl Yvonne is visiting from the states! :-)

Japanese Home Depot

My mother & I started working on our yard now that it's Spring & the weather is nice. We've been making regular trips to Make-Man which is kind of like a Home Depot type store with flowers, gardening & hope improvement equipment. We bought purple petunias to hang in front of our front door! ^.^ One of my favorite things to do while at Make-Man is to go to the pet area & look at all the cute puppies. I wish I could buy them all!
Outfit: Abercrombie & Fitch Hoodie, O'neill dress, Roxy loafers, Louis Vuitton Damier Azur bag.
I feel like this look doesn't look as cute with my new hair style & perhaps I'm outgrowing it since I'm getting older. But whatever I needed a casual outfit to run my errands in :-)

Hinoe Izakaya

A few nights ago I DDed since my Mom (not pictured) wanted to go to a party at an izakaya called Hinoe. I had never been there but had passed it many times so it was cool to try a new place. Since I wasn't drinking, all I really had to do was eat & watch all of the drunk people talk/fight with one another haha! Okinawans tend to order 5 thousand things at once so there was a tonnnnnn of food. Here are some pictures of my favorites dishes that we consumed: butterfish, mixed kebabs, pizza, & cheesecake. Considering I was sober with a bunch of super drunkies it was a fun night & I also made a new Japanese friend Ayaka. She is so cute & sweet & the same age as me. :-) It was actually a party for her & I'm really glad I met her!

Valentine from Poland

Recently my kawaii penpal Ania from Poland sent me a package full of sweets, postcards, a letter, & a super cute giraffe cell phone strap! I was super excited when I found this package in my mail box because Ania has a love for cute things just as I do. I really hope that some where some how we meet one day!The sweets were so yummy, I especially loved the Goralki wafer.... it was soooooooo good that I ate it in like two seconds.  Also I love the postcards she sends me from around the globe. I especially love the Valentine card in Polish! One day I plan to frame it & put them on my wall. :-) Thank you so much Ania!!!

Studio Ghlibi Sketch Art

So a few weekends ago I went to see the Studio Ghibli sketch art showing at the Naha museum. I couldn't take pictures of the sketches but basically they were all just original practice sketches for the movies & it was a great chance to see some of the thought process of how they put the animes together. Afterwards they had a huge wall full of "makurokurosuke" as seen in Totoro & Sentochihiro which were all drawn by guests who came to see the showing. My mother & I made our own (CheChe & Mommy) & put it next too a cute drawing of Haku, who is one of my all time favorite Ghlibi characters! I have such a crush on him! Also all around the museum they had Ghibli wall decals which I wish I could have for my house. :-P They even had a illusion floor where you could take a picture on top of Totoro sleeping in his cave as well as a wall with Ponyo. It was a nice mother daughter bonding experience since we both love Ghibli as we both grew up with their films.

Hagrid's Baby Daughter

My hair was starting to look like "Hagrid's baby daughter" as my friends would put it. It was getting crazy & hard to manage so I went to my friend's hair salon called Loyd. I got it straightened with some bangs. Loving it! I''m also thinking of getting some purple &/or pink gradations at the bottom since I've never had colors in my hair! I'm currently trying to reinvent myself again so it's very exciting. It's interesting how your hair can make you feel so different & inspired to start a new chapter in life!

Dauphine's Dresses

Here are the rest of the pictures from the museum displaying Marie Antoinette's dresses & head piece taken straight from her closet! All I can say is what a fashionista! It's really mind blowing to imagine a woman back in the 1770's designing such aesthetically appealing outfits. She really was an artist & continues to be a true fashion icon. She even inspired a Japanese manga called The Rose of Versailles which I hope to read in the future. One of the original manga drawings of the anime version of Marie was displayed at the end of the fashion display. My mother told me that when she was younger the series was a huge hit & thought it was really annoying because her sister had been obsessed with it & wouldn't stop quoting the characters. This cracks me up & I am even more intrigued knowing it played a part in my mother's pop culture!

Inside Marie Antoinette's Closet

Today I went to the museum in Naha, Okinawa. They often have art showings or artist displays from all over the world. For the past few months they have been displaying Marie Antoinette's personal art gallery of pieces that were gifted to her & pieces she paid her artist to create. Unfortunately picture taking of her collection was not allowed. There were all kinds of drawings of her life at Versailles, King Louis, her children, her family, etc. There were jewelry pieces, buttons, fabrics, coins, & other dauphine related items. Luckily I was allowed to take pictures of her outfits! Her ball gown was my absolute favorite of all of the dresses (which I will display next post as I am tired from being out all day!). It's so elaborate & screams gorgeous. Also look at how tiny her waist was!!! I envy!!

Style London & Paris Interior

About 3 years ago my mom & I moved from an apartment to a house & thought up the interior design & had it remodeled. We bought a lot of books for inspiration & some of my favorites are these interior/fashion books that you can find anywhere at your general Japanese bookstore. The series picks a fashionable city & asks artist business owners to show their homes. My favorite ones are the London & Paris ones because they mix a lot of beautiful vintage pieces with edgy modern pieces which I like to think is a part of my style as well. They have a very rock n roll meets classy ballerina feel that I just can't get enough of. I am currently trying to become more of a minimalist & reinvent my bedroom & am drawing from the books for ideas. Here are some of my favorite pages!

The Drop 10 Diet

Last year I bought an issue of Self magazine that was advertising The Drop 10 Diet by Lucy Danziger. I thought it was intriguing but I never got around to actually doing it. I've finally reread the issue & even bought the book on my kindle to try it out. The point of the diet is not to restrict but to eat more "superfoods" that help speed up your metabolism while also working out. The plan is to eat 1,600 calories a day, 200 of which are "happy calories" that you allow you to splurge on any food you like. If you don't want to use your happy calories you can roll them over for up to four days (800 splurge calories) & use them all at once. It's very reasonable & a lot of the superfoods are actually foods that I really love so I am gradually trying to get myself to convert to the Drop 10 way of eating. Today I've started with a tuna salad with mugicha as well as my morning coffee. The superfoods I have ate today are avocados in my salad & coffee! I am also reading The Good Girl's Guide to Getting Lost by Rachel Friedman. I have a serious wanderlust & this book is all about a former conservative girl's adventures around the world. I recommend it if you love a good memoir & travel stories! It has inspired me to plan a trip to Singapore right now & in June I am going to Portland, Oregon.

Marriage Equality for All!

Today March 26th (in the states!) gay & straight allies are taking a stand for their marriage rights in front of the Supreme Court. I'm not highly political however in my sophomore year of high school I was the Vice President of the Gay Straight Alliance. I was not very school spirit but this was & always will be a topic I feel extremely strong about. I grew up having a lot of gay friends & know that loving the same sex does not define a person's moral value. I have seen the struggles that my friends have been through & it shocks me that in this day & age we still must fight for this right & still have this ignorant hatred. When it comes down to it marriage is about love & and all Americans or in my belief anyone in the world (I know it's a long shot) should have the right to be in love with whoever they want. We are all free in this country & yet there is still inequality.

Couch Potato

Lately I've been trying to get myself back on the healthy track. I'm not going to kill myself to get the body I want, so slowly but surely. I'm horrible at diets. I am trying to eat better, more home made cooking & most importantly increase my work outs. Today is a lazy Friday, being a couch potato all day long. However & I have indulged in kiwi strawberry vitamin water, home made potato salad & buttery cheese toast with turkey ham. Hopefully I will make up for my lack of work out today when I go to my part time job tonight.
Easy potato salad recipe: boil potatoes, smash em up, chopped onions, pepper, & mayo. :-)
Also all week I have been trying to catch up on the Vampire Diaries. I am what feels like centuries behind. I'm only on season two but I have been going through the season quickly. Not going to lie I'm a little addicted & there are so many good looking guys on this show! Inspired by all of the blood on the show I reshaped my nails into claws & painted them red. The shaping isn't too great because they were all different sizes & lengths but at least they're fresh again. Also my pups have been lazing about with me all day. They've been on a diet too because their vet said they were on the chunky side for chihuahuas. They're no longer allowed to eat jerky sticks but from time to time I'll give them a fruity, oatmeal dog treat & they seem to like it a lot. :-)

9 Likings of March

LIFE UPDATE: Sorry I haven't updated in forever. I've been burnt out from college & work. I just haven't had much time to myself, but I'm currently trying to fix that. I quit a crappy job I was working, am taking less classes, & am trying to get healthy again. I am going to start blogging regularly again. There will be posts on diet, fashion, travels, beauty, food, gaming, books, etc.
HERE ARE MY CURRENT 9 LIKINGS OF MARCH: (from left to right)

1. Palm Trees. Spring is here & Summer is becoming nearer & nearer. I'm excited for my island life to start feeling tropical again & ready to say bye bye to crummy weather!

2. Iggy Azalea the Aussie rapper. I've been a fan for a while but I've been listening to her more & more lately. She just gets me pumped, especially when I'm up in the gym & she just came out with her new single as well. :-)

3. Tulips. In general I love flowers but since they are becoming in season I have been seeing them around often & have been wanting to get some for my room. This picture is a random pic from tumblr but I can't wait to get my own bouquet to brighten my day.

4. Pin Up. I'm a retro/vintage lover & I love mixing pin-up girl fashion with modern day fashion. Also I'm not really into stick thin figures. I'm all about embracing my curves! ;-)

5. Call of Duty: World at War. I know it's old but I never finished it. I'm trying to get back into gaming now that I have more relaxation time & I've been playing this. It's a decent way to let out my pent up anger.

6. Claws. I love claws. I don't get my nails done anymore because it's just too expensive & I'm only working part time right now. However I've been trying to shape my real nails into claws the best I can. I love these nails that I found on tumblr because not only are they claws but they're OVOXO. I'm a huge fan of the Weeknd & Drake.

7. Damon Salvatore from the Vampire Diaries. I'm watching season two of the series right now & omg he is so bad & sexy!

8. Kindle Paperwhite. My Pa just bought me a kindle since he wants me to be an avid reader. Reading  has always been a huge part of life & since I travel often this is just a lighter way for me to take stories with me all over the world. I'll always love the musty smell of library books & continue to check out books though!

9. Michael Kors. I am a huge fan of Michael Kors because he's a great fashion designer & his pieces are gorgeous yet affordable. I recently bought myself a new wallet & wristlet as you can see & I love them so much. As you can see I have an animal print addiction.

Birthday Bathroom Fun

My 22nd birthday was February 21st so on Friday the 22nd my girlfriends & I went to my friend's band's gig at the Officer's club. (More on that later!) We got all dolled up & had a photo shoot in the bathroom there. We have all these funny pictures but here are some of the better ones :-) People must've thought we were crazy for being all dressed up when everyone was very casual & on top of that having a hardcore photo sesh in the bathroom. It was hilarious!

Sakura

Went to see the sakura aka cherry blossom trees in Nago. In Okinawa they bloom earlier then on mainland Japan because it is so much warmer here during the winter time! They were gorgeous!

Run For Your Lives!

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SURVIVE?

The world as we knew it is gone. Welcome to Run For Your Lives, the original zombie infested 5K obstacle run. The apocalypse is here and it’s time to see if you’ve got what it takes to survive. Speed alone won’t save you in this race. Runners will have to use all of their cunning and wits to navigate the series of challenging obstacles and escape the horde of the undead waiting to claim you as one of their own.
Waiting at the end of this adventure is the Safe Zone, home of the Apocalypse Party. In this one-of-a-kind festival (complete with food, live bands, a DJ, and of course beer) runners get to celebrate their survival or imminent zombie transformation.

All of the above from youtube & the official website (click the link above!)
I found all of this after watching an episode of X-Play where one of the hosts went & actually participated in the race. It looked like something I would love so I did some research & found all of this information. Apparently this obstacle is going from state to state. I hope they keep doing it because I won't be moving back to the states for at least another year & I would love so much to try this race. I've always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie & running from people who are transformed into such realistic looking zombies would be the ultimate challenge!

Elle Cover Girl: Emma

Anytime I see Emma Watson as a cover girl I just have to buy it! She's my idol! I'm stuck at home thanks to a fever so I'm relaxing with a little snack & my magazine! These strawberry galbo minis are pretty yummy if you like artificial strawberry! I like the original better though!

Ikea Island Hidden Hike

Last month on Ashley & I's Ikea Island adventure, we found a little hike hidden behind some farming fields. It was made to reach some graves that were at the end of the stairs, however it also led to an amazing view of the ocean! It was a really rough trail but the beautiful blue ocean was definitely worth it.

Ikei Island Vestige

A few weekends ago my friend Ashley & I went on a little road trip to Ikei island. Ashley knew a little spot that had a vestige & burial spots. It was very low to the ground & we had to bend to get inside. I kind of regret going inside because I had a headache long after I entered the vestige. It was very creepy & even looking at these pictures gives me the chills!!!

Arin Krin

A few weeks ago my friend Ashley & I went on a little island adventure & ended up going completely the opposite direction of where we had intended to go. We ended up in the deep south of Okinawa but eventually we found our way back to the main road. To reward ourselves after our crazy road trip, we went to Arin Krin, the famous garlic house in Okinawa on 58 near Camp Kinser. Arin Krin is very popular amongst Americans stationed here & when we got there, the place was packed full of military families. They have a variety of garlic flavored foods from pizza, chicken, curry, pasta, potatoes & more. The food is not bad & for a reasonable price. The servers are nice as well. The only thing I could complain about is their parking so if you're going, the smaller the car the better! It was a very satisfactory end to our little road trip.
